Shiva Meals and Platters in Miami
Kosher-style meals and platters delivered to the shiva house, so the family is cared for and visitors are welcomed.
Taking care of the family
During shiva, the mourners should not have to think about food. Friends and community bring meals so the family can sit together and receive visitors. Our platters make that simple: a full chef-made meal for up to 12, delivered ready to serve in reusable serving dishes, with plates, napkins and cutlery.
For the week of shiva, the Fresh Lunch platters need no reheating, the Warm Dining platters make a full dinner, and the Sweet Party platters are for visitors in the afternoon.
What to bring to a shiva house
- Food that is easy to serve and share: platters, salads and simple mains.
- Food the family can eat: our food is kosher-style, so if the family keeps strict kosher, order from a certified kosher kitchen.
- Enough for visitors as well as the family.
- Round foods such as eggs and lentils are traditional for the first meal after the funeral.
- Coordinate with the family or a friend organizing meals so food arrives across the week, not all on day one.
How much food to send
Each platter package is a full meal for up to 12 people. Plan for the mourners and the family staying in the house first, then for visitors. During visiting hours most people take a little, so dessert and fresh lunch platters go a long way. Tell us how many people are sitting shiva and roughly how many visitors are expected, and we suggest the right mix from the platters menu.
Sending meals across the shiva week
- The first meal after the funeralTraditionally prepared by friends rather than by the family, often with eggs, lentils and bread. Order it for the afternoon of the funeral.
- Weekday lunches and dinnersA Fresh Lunch package at midday needs no reheating; a Warm Dining package covers the family's dinner.
- Visiting hoursSweet Party platters with coffee let visitors help themselves without anyone hosting.
- Shabbat during shivaPublic mourning pauses on Shabbat and the family sits down to a Shabbat meal. The Shabbat Table package is made for that table.
- If several people are sending foodOne organizer and a shared schedule keep meals from all arriving on the first day.

Shiva food questions
What food is appropriate to bring to a shiva house?
Food that is easy to serve and share: platters, salads, baked goods and simple mains, and enough for visitors as well as the family.
Should I bring flowers to a shiva?
Flowers are not traditional at a Jewish house of mourning. Food, or a donation in the person's memory, is the customary gesture.
Is it customary to bring food to the first meal after the funeral?
Yes. The first meal for the mourners after the funeral, the seudat havra'ah, is traditionally prepared by friends and community, often including round foods such as eggs and lentils.
Can you deliver shiva platters directly to the house?
Yes. Tell us the address, the day and the number of guests and we'll deliver ready-to-serve platters to the shiva house.
Are your shiva meals kosher?
They are kosher-style, not certified kosher: meat and fish with no dairy. If the family keeps strict kosher, they need food from a certified kosher kitchen. See kosher-style catering.
